Wildlife monitoring

Installation of camera trap

Camera traps are rapidly becoming standard tools in the monitoring and assessment of wildlife populations and increasingly sophisticated software packages that allow for analysis of larger data sets. These devices can deliver undisputable proof of existence of certain wildlife species in an area which can form the basis for identification of priority conservation areas.

Deployment of cameras in grids facilitate a systematic sampling of wildlife populations.  It is expected that a wealth of data is also collected for a number of ground-dwelling mammals and birds, which may help to inform conservation management of these species and also aid in improved habitat management.
